Are scientists discovered the most fattening food?

We were we wrong about fat and sugar?

Eating too much fat or sugar involves adding calories, we know that.

But recent research indicates that the real problem is to combine.

And the bad news is that this combination is the most tempting.

What donates you choose?

Oddly enough, the first clue to solve the puzzle of what is making us fat could be in this tempting selection of donuts.

Which of these donuts is preferable?

The donut is left… Too sweet! This has extra sugar donut coverage.

The donut's center… The best! This achieves a great base donates combination of sugar and fat, with a ratio 50:50. The interesting thing is that it tends to be the most sold worldwide.

For its part, donut on the right is… Too creamy! The cream makes this donut know oilier.

Not even joints or riots?

Paul Kenny, a researcher internationally known for his work on the neurobiology of obesity and addiction, He has been doing experiments with rats to try to understand what kind of food we like and why.

The first thing he did was give them sugar and let his rats eat as much as they wanted.

“To the animals, course, They liked and ate much, but they tended to not gain weight because what they did was adjust your intake of other nutrients to compensate. So, on average, rats that had access to solutions that are high in sugar consumed the same amount of calories each day”.

So if you let a rat take all the gas you want or provides access to an unlimited amount of sugar typically slimline.

it's amazing that someone can stay slim”.

Susan Jebb, nutrition scientist at the University of Oxford

Then they gave them all the food they wanted grease.

“With fat, They gained some weight, but not much”, Kenny account. “Further, They did not eat as much as they did before as the food was as many calories, your body quickly dealt with it: They have signs that warn them that already ate enough”.

But, What happened when they got cheesecake, having a high fat and sugar?

“Practically they stopped eating healthy food they had available; not eating too much: They are taking snacks, but it became their main source of calories”.

The expert acknowledged that the combination of fat and sugar can be delicious and supercharges the brain's reward system, more than other food.

Something like going to the fridge and eat a spoonful of ice cream each 20 minutes. They not eat much every time, but most frequently.

And those animals gained a lot of weight and became sedentary: They slept a lot and barely moved.

What we discovered was that Kenny, unlike when it comes to sugar and fat separated, rats have a mechanism to alert them already ate enough if they are combined.

“The combination of fat and sugar is completely different from the other macronutrients ... and has a remarkably good taste”.

Irresistible temptation

The human studies show that diets high in sugar and fat they gain more weight than if only one of these elements is high. In other words, it seems that we are like rats.

But, Why is this happening?

Foods high in both fat and sugar once rare in nature.

According to research by Kenny, rats were more affected by the combination of sugar and fat.

They are highly energetic and therefore very caloric.

They are also incredibly pleasant and we can learn to associate with us taste and feel good.

Eat those things supercharges the brain's reward system, activate the same neural circuits that trigger on drugs such as heroin or cocaine.

These foods may exceed the ability to have our bodies to tell us to stop eating, so there is nothing to stop us when we're on our way to the kitchen “a little more”.
